Contingency Planning for Disaster Recovery From the conceptual Greenfield Design for a post-disaster facility, to the present-day opportunities for improved service and reduced distribution costs the process may yield, Allan outlines how best to undertake effective contingency planning for disaster recovery. Distribution Network Optimization Using Six Sigma Kevin will familiarize you with Maple Leaf's current distribution network, outline the methodology for their network optimization project, and describe the post-implementation, future network to you. This presentation will highlight some of the Six Sigma tools and methods used and the role these played in the network optimization process. Kevin will also share some of the expected results and the impact these will have on the business. Sobeys Atlantic Network Strategy Charlie provides an overview of the 3 phases of the Sobeys Atlantic network strategy from concept to implementation. He'll present the framework for this project which ran over a 3 year period beginning in 2002. As he does so Charlie will also share details of the recommendations, the results both expected and actual, as well as some insight on where they are today. Three Scenarios for Automated Solutions Kom International provides an overview of three of the most common scenarios for automated solutions along with a high-level cost justification for each. Case Pick Automation: A Comparison of Solutions Bas will provide a balanced overview on a number of case pick solutions that comparatively positions these different technologies, in addition to an insightful comparison of the flexibility constraints of each. Among the practical food, beverage and grocery examples throughout the presentation Bas will provide an overview of various Ahold examples which use a most innovative automation solution that will be of particular interest to Klinic participants considering case pick automation for their operations. Moderated Discussion Session Ron will put forward the topics for this moderated discussion session, set the ground rules, and call upon the six Discussion Leaders who will ask each Klinic participant to join a pre-assigned discussion group. Their role is to facilitate a lively discussion with input from you and your fellow participants. MDI's Slotting Success Story Kenny shares the story of MDI's success with its recently implemented Dry Grocery slotting strategy which has resulted in a big boost in productivity and reduced product damage while adding efficient operating life to the facility. Customized Slotting and Slot Maintenance Warehouse slotting is a unique process that cannot be performed through a "cookie cutter" approach. Mike will make use of case examples to facilitate his discussion on the objectives of using the right slotting methods to maximize productivity. These include store friendly, customer zones, vendor, and floating slot. Mike will also discuss the importance of maintaining your customized slotting through the use of new item placement tools and slot maintenance/ forecasting methods. Best Practices in Freight Transportation Drawing on his years of senior management experience in the freight transportation industry and his years of consulting experience, Dan will highlight some best practices in freight management. In addition, he will outline the process of conducting a multi round freight bid to reduce costs and improve service. Productivity Benchmarking Results and Commentary Each year KOM International undertakes a Benchmark Survey for its clients in conjunction with KOM Klinic. Green buildings of every type are being certified to improve bottom line, enhance productivity and future-proof owners against rising energy costs and environmental risks. From an architectural perspective, Lyse will familiarize you with the advantages, potential short and long-term cost savings, and LEED certified description of a green building. Design Trends for the Modern Distribution Center Dacon's presentation focuses on a review of current engineering and construction design initiatives for large, high volume distribution centers including; energy management, green design, refrigeration systems, materials of construction, and other innovations. |
